This was on of the sixty'War Drawings'  published by Authority of the War Office by Country Life Ltd., 1917.  The series constituted six  volumes with ten images in each volume.

Sir DAVID MUIRHEAD BONE, NEAC HRSW HRSA HARIBA (1876-1953). Appointed as Britain's first official war artist in May 1916. Commissioned as an honorary Second Lieutenant, he arrived in France during the Battle of the Somme, serving with the Allied forces on the Western Front and also with the Royal Navy for a time.
